Cement Types in the UAE: OPC, SRC and White Cement

Cement looks like a commodity until you use the wrong type in the wrong place. The main varieties on UAE sites serve distinct purposes.

Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)

The general-purpose cement for most concrete and mortar work, structural elements, blockwork and screeds where there's no special exposure.

Sulphate-resisting cement (SRC)

The Gulf's ground and groundwater can be high in sulphates, which attack ordinary concrete. SRC is formulated to resist that, the choice for foundations and any concrete in contact with aggressive ground.

White cement

White cement is used where appearance matters: architectural finishes, decorative and precast elements, tile grouts and feature concrete.
